Period Power Stories

Menstruation has long been seen as the ultimate “TMI” topic.

Period Power Stories is a groundbreaking program that trains young people – menstruators and non-menstruators alike – to develop story-driven impact campaigns using their own lived experiences to advocate for menstrual equity. In partnership with Kingston High School’s Period Power! Club, this program amplifies youth voices to tackle period poverty — which is defined as the lack of access to menstrual products and quality health education. Through workshops, live performances, podcasts, video bundles, and the written word, we equip students with the tools needed to fight for access to period products and comprehensive health education.

“For years I was scared to speak up for myself. I hated the sound of my own voice. Through Period Power! Club, I heard all of these stories from people who were struggling. I saw what a big issue it was and I found my voice. Now, I use it to speak up for myself and others. I say what needs to be said.”

Looking Back

In the fall of 2023, TMI Project held a true storytelling workshop for members of the Period Power! Club at Kingston High School. Students worked with TMI Project workshop leaders to craft their true, personal stories over the course of 10 weeks before bravely stepping on stage to share them for a live audience.

The audience and Period Power! Club members were deeply touched and activated by the event. As a result of the show, the Club raised so much support they went from having depleted resources to having enough menstrual products to share with others schools in the district. They were activated to set bigger goals to help schools across the country.

Moving Forward

In 2025, we will produce and launch a graphic novel, videos from the live performance, and a  video podcast produced in partnership with HUDSY; all with accompanying curriculum. TMI Project will continue to support this extraordinary group of youth activists until their visions have been made a reality.

They aim to:

  • Inspire others to share their stories, shift the narrative, and eradicate shame
  • Provide a blueprint for lasting change for other schools to end period poverty and improve health education
  • Educate adult and non-menstruating allies
  • Inspire policy improvements, quality of sustainable menstrual products, and health education.

This pilot program will become a foundation to scale Period Power Stories to tackle period poverty on a state-wide and ultimately a national level.
